Firestone Community Information

Firestone offers the benefits of a tremendous location to its residents. The town is located within minutes from Boulder and Denver, providing abundant opportunities for recreation, entertainment, sporting events, employment and cultural activities. Interstate 25 is adjacent to the area, which makes the commute to Denver quick and easy. The Colorado Rocky Mountains are about an hour away, offering spectacular views, fabulous sunsets and plenty of possibilities for skiing, hiking, fishing and camping. Residents of Firestone also benefit from a mild climate, offering warm summers, mild winters, low humidity and approximately 340 days of sunshine a year.

Major Stephen H. Long undertook the first expedition to what is now Weld County in 1821. He concluded that the area would never be fit for human habitation and should be left the exclusive province of bison and jackal. This report did not stop Lt. Lancaster Lupton from establishing a trading post in the area in 1836. The U.S. Congress later established the territory of Colorado in 1861. The Firestone area saw an influx of people drawn by opportunities for coal mining, which is evident in local place names such as Coal Creek. Many mineshafts still exist in the area and can be found intact under the streets of Firestone's companion town of Frederick.

The town of Firestone offers many recreational activities as well as special and seasonal events for the whole family to enjoy. Parks in and around the communities include Coal Creek Park, offering baseball and softball diamonds as well as a multi-purpose field, and Arapahoe Ridge, which houses a tennis court, clubhouse and outdoor swimming pool. Paved trails can also be found throughout Firestone. Children look forward to dressing up for the annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest. Families also look forward to the Weld County Fair, which offers activities and attractions from a Pet and Doll Parade to a petting zoo.
